The JPK Sussex is entering a new chapter as the charity begins developing wider opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism across East Sussex.
After many years of leadership from Chairperson Jill Parker MBE, the charity is moving into a future-focused phase centred on inclusion, accessibility, empowerment and community connection. Jill played a defining role in developing supported living, advocacy and community opportunities — including the establishment of Gow Lodge.
The charity now hopes to build on those foundations by developing a more inclusive and accessible community hub: a place shaped by listening, learning and collaboration, and by what people with learning disabilities, autism and their families say they need.
Future plans currently being explored include:
• Evening and weekend community groups
• Music, dance and film nights
• Sensory and wellbeing sessions
• Family support and signposting
• Consultancy and best-practice support
• Employment and vocational opportunities
• Wider community events that promote inclusion and connection
The long-term vision is for The JPK Sussex to become a recognised Inclusion Hub for East Sussex — bringing together families, providers, professionals and the wider community in one welcoming and empowering space.
Kelsey Debenedictis, Chair of The JPK Sussex, said:
“There is always room for more inclusion, more opportunity and more understanding. We want The JPK Sussex to continue evolving into a place where people feel safe, listened to, empowered and connected within their community.”
The JPK Sussex continues to move forward positively, with plans for growth, development and wider community involvement. These ideas are being explored as part of the charity’s future direction and will develop through collaboration, support and funding.
